Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned a very impressive inspection grade. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility an A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was dominant in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Not many facilities fared better in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The third category we assessed was short-term care. Contributing to its top-shelf profile, this nursing home also excelled in that category. In fact, it received a grade of of A- in the category. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The final category we scored was nursing, in which this facility was given a grade of B. Believe it or not, this was this facility's weakest category. A nursing home could be doing a lot worse when it's weakest score still outperforms most other facilities. Our nursing grade consists of a handful of components, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
