Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we rated ended up being this nursing home's poorest category. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still gave it an acceptable grade of C for our short-term care category. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is frequently a meaningful measure of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that just 3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
