Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. We looked at the qualifications of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to our final area, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. We gave it a grade of B+ for this category. This wrapped up a very impressive profile. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
