Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
This place really excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received an impressive grade of A-. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.4012 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the elderly population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned a strong inspection score. Inspection grades are based on the nursing home's recent government inspections. We gave this facility a B in this category. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. Nursing scores are primarily associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This place averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this subcategory.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. We awarded it a C in that area. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
