Short-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a strong short-term care grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is considered to be a meaningful measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with a score of A. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. The nursing rating assesses a handful of components, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded is long-term care, in which this facility received a grade of B. Believe it or not, this is this nursing home's weakest category. A nursing home is doing something right when it's worst grade still is better than most facilities. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 95.77465 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
