To pair with its strong overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A for our short-term care grade. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Adding to its impressive profile, this nursing home also performed at a high level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

We also awarded this facility a respectable grade in the category of long-term care, with a grade of B-. Our long-term care grade is used to score a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. After we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 96.969696 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The final category we assessed turned out to be this facility's poorest category. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still gave it a respectable grade of B- in nursing. Our nursing grade assesses a handful of factors, however, the main one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, our nursing ratings also factor in some quality-focused statistics. We look at the percent of residents who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these metrics are indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
