Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also gave this nursing home a score of A- for our long-term care score. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 97.75051 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also was awarded favorable short-term care grades in our assessment. In fact, we awarded them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of B+. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. We weren't able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next category we looked at is nursing. This nursing home was awarded a very good nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of C. While this was not as impressive as many of its other scores, this is still a respectable grade in that category. There are many factors within this grade. Most of these subcategories relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this metric. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.
