Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home an A-. In computing our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provided 5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very impressive figure which typically corresponds with better quality care. Finally, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents sustaining falls leading to major injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home in the nation.
Short-term Care Quality
The third area we looked at was short-term care. This facility received a top-shelf short-term care grade. We gave them a strong grade of A- in this area. Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the nation in this area with 65.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a grade of C. While this wound up being its poorest category rating, this is nevertheless not the end of the world. In computing our long-term care grades, we size up the personal care received by the nursing home's residents. After considering the impressive nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 94.91525 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which appears to be higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital.
