Short-term Care Quality
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B for our short-term care rating. In forming our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is better than average. In calculating our nursing grades, we apply additional weight to hours performed by more highly trained nurses such as registered or licensed nurses. Finally, this place was relatively weak in two of the areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home received its third highest category score in the area of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this category, which is a decent grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.71 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
In the last category of government inspections, we gave this facility a C for this category. Inspection scores are tied to several data points located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. This facility had 3 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category G through L deficiencies. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent danger to resident safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.
