Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in this area with an A-. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had a generally positive view of this facility's inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also would like to point out that this nursing home was given favorable long-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in this area, with a B. This proved to be the facility's second strongest grade. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 95.68106 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing rating includes several subcategories. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this category, which is an abysmal grade. This is certainly a significant concern. Short-term care grades are critical for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
