Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong facility is that it earned an impressive inspection score. Inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to this facility's list of strengths, it also was given a first-rate short-term care grade. We awarded them an elite grade of A- in this area. In crafting our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. The nursing grade includes a handful of datapoints, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was long-term care, was this nursing home's worst category. We gave this nursing home a D in this area. This is one of the couple of weak links in a quality profile. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
