Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While we gave this facility a poor overall score, we awarded it a fairly respectable grade in the area of inspections, where we gave it a B-. This was quite a bit better than its other category grades. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 14 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next highest area turned out to be its long-term care score, where it received a B-. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.22034 percent of its residents, which is a few points below what we expected. Nevertheless, this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of C in this area. With our short-term care category, we endeavor to forge a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final category we graded was nursing. This facility was given a very poor grade of F in this area. Nursing grades are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. With only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal scores in several of the quality-based measures to go along with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this metric. This is quite concerning when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of earning a weak nursing grade.
