Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded a favorable long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.15493 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home was close to average in this area.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. In calculating our nursing grades, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. Specifically, we look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to our next area, we awarded this facility a grade of D for short-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category rating. Sadly, this score hurt the nursing home's overall grade to a certain degree. In crafting these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The last item we considered in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 36.5 percent of its patients returning home.
