Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home received even higher grades in the category of short-term care. It earned one of our best scores in that area with a score of A-. Our short-term care scores are critical for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. It does not appear that this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive grades, we awarded this nursing home an B+ for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It performed better than most nursing homes in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 99.20949 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. We gave this facility a B- in that area. Our nursing score weighs numerous factors. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
