Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility's overall grade was helped by a strong long-term care grade. We gave them one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of B+. This is a notably better grade than its overall grade. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 77.622375 percent of its residents. This is slightly lower than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility's inspection rating exceeded its overall grade as well. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with a B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In computing a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the number of hours nurses are seeing patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a very low figure. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did well in this area. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we graded is short-term care. It received a lowly F for this area, which is a very poor score. This is certainly a major concern. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. With a grade this poor for this category, we weren't stunned to find that this facility was well below average in many staffing metrics we assess. The nursing home provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.9 percent of its residents returning home.
