Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received even higher grades in the area of long-term care. In fact, it received one of our best grades in that category with an impressive grade of A. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 93.2271 percent of its residents. This is a few points lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Our inspection ratings are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. The nursing score is based on several datapoints, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our last category is short-term care, in which we awarded this facility a C in this category. In determining these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
