Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this critical area. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility received high marks in the area of long-term care as well. As a result, it received one of our strongest scores in that category with a area of A. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the quantity of hours nurses are caring for patients and the levels of training of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, while this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was nursing, is this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. This is one of the couple of weak links on an otherwise impressive profile. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home.
