Facility Inspections
Although we didn't give this nursing home a good overall score, we actually gave it a relatively strong grade in the area of inspections, where it received a B+. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This nursing home was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second highest category was its short-term care grade, where it was awarded a B-. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to forge a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess a nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The critical question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality
We were stunned to find that this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest grades. The nursing rating weighs many datapoints, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This place offered just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these datapoints to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed is long-term care, is this nursing home's least impressive category. We awarded this facility a D in that category. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
