Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Even though we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we gave it a B- for short-term care. In forming our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The more important thing is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our nursing rating is primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Facility Inspections
We wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grade where it received a lowly F. This typically means we found red flags on the inspections. For places with poor inspection scores, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This facility had one category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more serious categories of deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies found by the government inspectors had the potential to create actual harm to patients. Finally, we need to point out that this place was assessed significant government fines recently totaling over $100,000. This typically indicates that a bad track record spanned multiple years.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored is long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a very poor grade. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 94.71698 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
