Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to note its decent government inspection reports in recent years. We gave it a relatively respectable score of B- in this category. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The next best area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. It outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 55.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. In determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we consider the number of hours nurses spend with residents as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This facility provides only 2.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure as it is well below the national average. While this facility didn't really impress in terms of the quantity of nursing care provided, it actually performed admirably in some of our quality measures. In fact, it was above average in two of the major statistics we look at, with positive reviews for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are good indicators of the quality of nursing care provided since many falls and bed sores are preventable.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was long-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in that area. With our long-term care assessment, we focus on the volume of services offered by a nursing home, as well as some quality metrics. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 91.666664 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat below what we expected but still a decent percentage. The last datapoint we looked at was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Although it had 2.34 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not as bad.
