In addition to earning a great overall score, this nursing home received an A+ in our short-term care rating. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

This nursing home also received a nearly flawless government inspection. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. This was one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s. Inspection grades are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Nursing homes that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

The next category we analyzed is long-term care. This facility received a favorable long-term care score, with a grade of B+ in this area. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 89.62264 percent of its patients. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

In the last category we graded, this facility was given an impressive grade grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home topped off a first-rate profile. The nursing score is based on a handful of subcategories, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
