Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it received an A+ inspection grade. This is as good as it gets in this very important category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. We weren't able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Without deficiency related data for this facility, it ended up being a challenge to really evaluate it in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Nursing scores are largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a patient even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The third category we graded is long-term care. This facility was given a very positive long-term care grade, with a grade of B+ in the area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we assessed ended up being this facility's worst area. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still awarded it a respectable grade of C for our short-term care category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is frequently a meaningful assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.
