Long-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.579834 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.48 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A+. This was one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+ category grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. There are several datapoints included in this area. Many of the datapoints relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.8 hours per resident each day. This is more nursing care than nearly any other nursing home provides. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility Mississippi in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these areas as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a C. Although this turned out to be its weakest category grade, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. Our short-term care grades are likely more important for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
