Facility Inspections
While we didn't give this place a good overall grade, we actually gave it a relatively strong grade in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an C. Our nursing score focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Our long-term care grades are more meaningful for residents in need of more traditional services related to personal care. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored was short-term care. For that category, we gave this facility a C. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The real question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
