Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a positive score in our long-term care category. We awarded this facility a better than average grade of B in that category. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.48024 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. The nursing score analyzes many datapoints, but the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care, which was a low point for this nursing home. We awarded this nursing home a D for the area of short-term care. In determining these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Based on its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the data we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.7 percent of its residents returning home.
