Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to faring well in its overall grade, this facility earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, we gave it one of our highest grades in this category with a grade of A. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its top-shelf profile, this facility also received a superb long-term care score, with a grade of A-. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.68652 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing category is based on quite a few datapoints, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Massachusetts in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last area we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home was awarded a strong nursing rating this year, with a B. Although this is not as elite as several of its other scores, this is still one of the better grades in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
