This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless government inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category scores came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B+. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this area. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 98.96373 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next best score was short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still performed relatively badly. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

The last area we graded is nursing, which was this nursing home's weakest area. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is certainly a major concern. Nursing grades are mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is an alarmingly low total. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic dragged down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
