Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our shot-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were not able to locate this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Turning to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Turning the page to our next area, we awarded this facility a grade of A for its short-term care grade. This is a very strong score. Short-term care grades are generally employed to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average facility. This is a very favorable sign. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
In our final area, this facility also was awarded an excellent nursing grade, with an A. This wrapped up a first-rate profile. Nursing scores are mostly based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the nation when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
