Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its profile, this nursing home also received a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this category. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 79.948586 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our more positive grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. In forming these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this nursing home was given a decent nursing score of B-. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, our nursing grades also consider some quality-focused metrics. We especially look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are indicators of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these problems.
