Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was strong in the area of short-term care, where it received a score of A. Not many facilities performed better in this area. Short-term care grades are often used to score a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to another of this nursing home's strengths, it also earned a very impressive inspection grade. This turned out to be one of its best category grades. In that category, we gave this facility an impressive grade of B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last area we rated is long-term care, where this facility was given a B. Believe it or not, this was this nursing home's least impressive category. A facility is doing something right when their worst grade still beats out most facilities. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 94.202896 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
