Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents even once per day.

This high end nursing home also was superb in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Only a small group of nursing homes fared better in this area. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 97.87234 percent of its residents, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

The third area we analyzed is short-term care. This nursing home also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be given more than one A+ category grades. Short-term care grades are vital for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists.
