While we were not high on this place overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This grade is much more impressive than the place's overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

This nursing home's long-term care score turns out to be one of its better grades. The facility was awarded a B- in this category. Our long-term care ratings are pivotal for patients seeking non-healthcare services such as personal care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 92.2043 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a few points lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Next, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. While it had 2.15 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not as bad.

The next category we analyzed was short-term care, in which this facility was given an F. Our short-term care scores are arguably more critical for people needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. The last statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 44.8 percent of its patients returning home.

The final area we scored is nursing. We gave it a lowly F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. We weighed the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in calculating our rating in this category. This place averaged only 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in two of the major metrics we focus on, with good marks for avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
