This facility ended up receiving rock bottom scores in our assessment. Perhaps most alarmingly, it received an F for its short-term care grade. In crafting our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. In this nursing home's case, it looks like it offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 45.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Unfortunately, this nursing home received an F for its inspection rating. This is a very important category. Grades in this range typically point to some red flags on the nursing home's government inspection reports. When a place has this bad of an inspection grade, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed a category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies found by inspectors had potential to pose actual harm to patients. In addition to having severe deficiencies, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

The third area we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home's received a bottom of the barrel long-term care grade where it was given a lowly F. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated 46.08295 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is quite a bit lower than average. Unfortunately, its hospitalization rate was also a cause for concern. We found that this nursing home had 2.33 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.

Moving on to our last category, this facility really did not fare very well in this category either. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is really as terrible as it gets. Our nursing rating weighs several data points, but the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating substantially.
