Short-term Care Quality
On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility received high marks for short-term care as well. As a result, it received our highest grade in that category with a score of A+. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more critical for those requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is generally an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 78.3 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility received high marks in the area of nursing. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our nursing score is primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided 7.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the highest figures we found. In addition, a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility in the nation when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care offered.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned a nearly flawless government inspection report. As a result, it received one of our top scores in that category with a grade of A+. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to find deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final area we assessed, this nursing home received great scores in the area of long-term care also. As a result, it received an A+. This left it as one of just a few of facilities to receive A+'s in all of our categories. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. It does not appear that this nursing home provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
