Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall performance, we awarded this facility a grade of A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our nursing grade. Nursing grades are largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving a resident even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our better scores in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of C. Although this wound up being its lowest category grade, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. Short-term care ratings are important for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 3.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
