This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home also was awarded a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it a B+ in that area, which is one of our better. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.464066 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.4 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a score of D. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided only 2.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This facility's weakest area was short-term care, which is the final category we analyzed. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category. Despite multiple solid scores in other areas, this grade is still alarming so we felt obligated to make a note of it. Short-term care grades are typically used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. In this facility's case, we found that it offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 30.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
