While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of C. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category G through L deficiencies. This means that it dodged the more significant categories of deficiencies. Lastly, we want to note that this facility has received government fines in recent years. Fortunately these were on the lower end of the spectrum. That said, this isn't what we like to find.

We were also stunned to discover that this facility received a decent long-term care score this year. We gave it a grade of C in that area. Long-term care ratings are essential for patients seeking personal care. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 4.24 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this statistic can be skewed for some facilities based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing score is mostly based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. In addition to receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.

The next category we scored was short-term care. We gave it an F in this category, which is a rock bottom score. In our short-term care grade, we endeavor to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home was subpar in terms of its quantity of registered nurse hours provided to its patients. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 19.2 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
