Even though we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable short-term care rating this year. We gave it a C in that area. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below average.

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. In computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses are caring for residents and the level of skill of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, although this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care score. This is not one of our better scores. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an above average total. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

In the last category of inspections, this nursing home had an abysmal showing. It received an F in our inspection rating. With nursing homes that received this bad of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This facility had 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that this place was assessed large government fines recently totaling more than $100,000. This usually means that a nursing home's bad track record has been an issue for multiple years.
