Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this ended up being a great nursing home is it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we were able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its short-term care grade. In crafting these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the average facility. This is certainly a great sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 76.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Few facilities received a better grade in this category. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. It doesn't appear that this nursing home provided data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
In the final category we scored, this nursing home was awarded a very favorable grade of A in our nursing category. With this score, the facility finished off a straight A profile. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This place provided 5 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is among the highest totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by both of these statistics. In addition to offering high levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any facility in Louisiana in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these metrics as good measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
