Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an C. Our nursing rating includes a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a somewhat discouraging figure which is well below average. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a resident more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to discover that this nursing home received a solid long-term care grade this year. We gave it a C in that area. Long-term care grades are used to measure a nursing home's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. Unfortunately, this facility vaccinated a relatively low 84.61539 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was short-term care, where this facility was given a rock bottom score here as well. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Our short-term care grade is often used to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With a score of this caliber for this category, we weren't shocked to learn this place was below average in multiple staffing areas we focus on. The nursing home offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 2.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
