Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A-. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its second highest category grade in the area of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this area, which is a decent grade. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility gave the vaccine to a relatively low 90.10696 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. We gave it an D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. In calculating our nursing ratings, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's worst area is short-term care, which is the final category we scored. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a D. Our short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we were not surprised to discover this nursing home was well below average in multiple staffing areas we looked at. The nursing home provided significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
