Facility Inspections

Grade: B

While this place's overall grade was not a highlight, it did receive a very good grade in the category of inspections. We awarded it a grade of B for that area, which is one of our better scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next most favorable category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a B-. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.4012 percent of its patients. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we assessed is short-term care, which proved to be this facility's weakest area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. In computing these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Based on its grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
