This place fared well in our long-term care category. We gave it a grade of A- for that category. This helped its overall profile. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 74.33629 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. The nursing category is based on quite a few subcategories, many of which are based on nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is far below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

This nursing home's least impressive category is short-term care, which is the last category we analyzed. In this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of just D. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Based on its abysmal grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn this nursing home offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes.
