Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's higher category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.576515 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the elderly population. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's third highest area turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B-. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the country in this area with 53.3 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated is nursing, which proved to be this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in this area. Unfortunately, this grade hurt the facility's overall profile a bit. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. With just 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
