Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in this area with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. It does not look like we have deficiency data for this facility. We wish we had more data for this nursing home. Without having access to all of the deficiency data, it is a challenge to fully evaluate it in terms of this category.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an impressive long-term care grade. As a matter of fact, we awarded them a B in this area, which is one of our better. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is better than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. We gave this nursing home an D. The nursing score includes many datapoints. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. With a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored was short-term care, which turned out to be this facility's worst area. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. Our short-term care grades are likely more meaningful for folks requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its weak grade in this area, we were not stunned to find this facility offers far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
