Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. A deficiency-free inspection report is definitely the goal.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an A+. Our nursing rating is primarily based on a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Oklahoma in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a resident more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality
Compounding its first-rate resume, this facility also received an excellent short-term care grade, with a grade of A. In forming these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
The fourth area we scored was long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of A. This completed a very strong profile. Very few nursing homes received an A- or higher in all four categories. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
