Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its top-shelf resume, this nursing home also was given an excellent long-term care grade, with a score of A. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 86.3354 percent of its residents. This is a bit below what we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours those nurses spent with residents, in computing our score in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to the fourth area, this facility was awarded a strong short-term care grade. Even though this wasn't quite as strong as a few of its other scores, this is still one of the more impressive grades a facility can receive. In our short-term care score, we seek to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 4.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
