Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its decent overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for its inspection grade. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades was in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B+. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 73.6 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be slightly lower than we anticipated but still a respectable figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we looked at was short-term care, where this facility was given a grade of C in this category. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's worst area was nursing, which is the last area we scored. It received a lowly F for this area. Even with multiple solid grades in other areas, this grade is still of a concern so we wanted to point it out. Our nursing score weighs a handful of factors, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
