To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This facility was assessed 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

In addition, we also wanted to note that this facility was awarded positive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our more impressive scores in this area, with a B+. This turned out to be the facility's second strongest grade. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After considering the very impressive nursing care provided by this nursing home, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.48718 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 4.19 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of residents.

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Our nursing rating includes a handful of subcategories, most of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provided 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which was among the higher totals we found. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed admirably in this area. Avoiding serious falls is often a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.

Historical

This nursing home's least impressive category was short-term care, which is the final area we looked at. It received a lowly F for this area. Despite some solid scores in other categories, this grade is nevertheless disappointing so we would like to to point it out. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is frequently a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we discovered that this place provides fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 17.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
