Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we gave this nursing home a B in our long-term care category. This is one of our better scores. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 73.86364 percent of its patients. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a score of D. There are several factors within this grade. Most of the factors reflect staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to the next category, this nursing home really did not perform well. With a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is its worst category grade. In calculating our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is frequently a solid assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With a score of this caliber in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this place was well below average in many staffing areas we assess. The nursing home offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
