The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Additionally, we awarded this facility a B in our long-term care category. This is one of our higher scores. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 94.04935 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.29 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a significantly lower hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.

Another unfortunate development was the F this nursing home was given in the category of short-term care. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. In this place's case, we found that it actually provides far less registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. Given its grade in this category, this did not surprise us. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 23.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. This statistic was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.

Moving on to our last category, this facility really didn't perform very well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is this nursing home's poorest area. Our nursing grade is based on many factors, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided only 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this measure. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
