Long-term Care Quality
This place really excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received an A-. Few facilities fared better in this area. If not for this category, this place's overall score would have been worse. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. After we finished assessing the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.33333 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.86 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this category, this figure may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the medical complexity of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B in our short-term care category. This is one of our higher grades. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. This place performed respectably with 46.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. There are a number of datapoints within this grade. Most of the subcategories are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, this nursing home was relatively weak in two of the major metrics we focus on, with subpar scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Facility Inspections
The last category we looked at was inspections. This ended up being this facility's worst grade. We gave it just a D in this area. Since this information is collected by government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our assessment. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. You should be more cautious when considering a nursing home with severe deficiencies on its inspection reports. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this nursing home also has been assessed significant government fines recently.
