Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing score consists of a handful of components, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular facility provided 5.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the more impressive totals we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. Both of these statistics are impressive. In addition to providing high levels of care, this place was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These datapoints are generally good measures of the quality of nursing care a nursing home offers.
Long-term Care Quality
Among its many elite scores, this nursing home was awarded a top-shelf long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a score of A in that area. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the well above average quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the facility's vaccination record. By way of example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.77876 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.77 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Another quality feature of this nursing home is its inspection grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was short-term care. This facility received a favorable nursing score this year, with a grade of B. While this was not as elite as many of its other grades, this is nevertheless one of our more favorable scores in that area. Our short-term care grades are presumably most important for people needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility elevated its grade in this area by providing more care from registered nurses than a typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 20.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
